The Maxi-Cosi CabrioFix (from £99.99) is one of the best infant carriers out there, it’s a group 0+ car seat that can hold up to 13kg. It is also renowned for being able to fit onto most buggies on the market, so we just had to see what all the fuss was about!
Upon arrival of our CabrioFix Infant Car Seat, we expected to have to put at least the seat cover on, however we didn’t have to lift a finger! Once taken out of the box, it was ready to use straight away. The Maxi-Cosi CabrioFix includes a removable support pillow with head hugger for smaller babies, belt pads for both the shoulder and crotch strap and an integrated sun canopy.
The Maxi-Cosi CabrioFix is a Group 0+ infant car seat that holds from 0 to 13kg (approximately 12 months), it weights a minimal 3.5kg so is extremely easy to manoeuvre from car to buggy. The 3-point, one-pull adjustment harness allows for you to be holding the car seat whilst tightening or un-tightening straps as only needs the use of one hand. There are belt hooks which will keep the harness out of the way for easy in and out of the CabrioFix, making life a lot easier when holding your child in one hand!
The CabrioFix has a curved base that is perfect for when your child won’t settle and will simply rock to sleep. The removable covers are very easy to take off and we love the fact that they are also machine washable – yay!
Adjusting the height of the harness is easily done from the back of the seat (hidden compartment – can also be used for storing a phone or purse if need be). It is a simple procedure which involves rethreading the harness through a higher loop hole, as your child grows this comes in extremely handy as will not over restrict them.
Side Impact Protection on the Maxi-Cosi CabrioFix offers optimal protection in side impacts; you can tell that from just looking at the CabrioFix that it’s going to keep your child safe during any form of collision. It’s been brutally tested when in use with the Maxi-Cosi 2WayFix Base, FamilyFix Base and EasyFix Base and came out with excellent results. It’s approved according to the latest European safety standard ECE R44/04.
The ergonomic carry handle is convenient and the CabrioFix is easy to carry due to its light weight; no strain here! It has 3 multiple positions, ranging from rocking, feeding and driving. The feeding position is great for when not being able to take your child out of their car seat; as it simply lets the car seat stand upright and removes the bar so there is no hassle when trying to manoeuvre a spoon of food around the handlebar. The rocking position will allow you to let baby continue to sleep when needing to take the CabrioFix out of the car, it also provides comfort for when baby won’t settle as the base of the seat along with the handle in this position lets the CabrioFix ‘rock’; creating a swaying like motion. We love the fact that the Maxi-Cosi CabrioFix has these three different handle positions, convenience is key!
The sun canopy also hooks onto this handlebar which is a great for making sure it stays up and in shape.
The hidden integrated Sun Canopy is hidden away behind a plastic removable part in the frame of the seat itself. With the simple click of a grey button this piece of the frame can be moved outwards to reveal the canopy hiding beneath. Within the canopy itself it has two loops built into its material which attach onto the carrying handle; the handle has two points in which the built-in loops attach to and can be moved with the sun canopy still attached. We love the fact that the Canopy can be stored away and hidden when not in use.
The Maxi-Cosi CabrioFix is renowned for being able to fit onto most models of most buggy brands (with the relevant adaptors), it is also compatible with almost all Maxi-Cosi and Quinny strollers. With Maxi-Cosi Adaptors (from £19), the CabrioFix can fit onto most brands including: Out n About, Phil & Teds, UPPAbaby and Mountain Buggy. However do make sure that the relevant adaptors are available for your model of buggy as some are very specific to the brand and model of the buggy.
Depending on whether you choose to install your car seat onto a base or not will depend as to how it is installed into your car. The CabrioFix can be installed by either the use of a 3-point in car seat belt, or the with the use of ISOfix (only when in use with a base).
With the use of ISOfix, the CabrioFix will fit onto the FamilyFix Base (from £149.99), 2WayFix Base (from £175) or EasyFix Base (from £99.99). Both the 2WayFix and FamilyFix Base offers an extra upward position, giving baby extra legroom when growing and also allows them to travel rearward-facing for longer. This is said to be a much safer way of travelling when your child is still an infant due to the way in which impact would affect them when in a collision.
With the use of a 3-point car seat belt, you can either install the car seat with or without a base attached. If wanting to use in conjunction with a base where you car doesn’t have ISOfix, the Maxi-Cosi EasyBase 2 (from £79.90) is what you’ll need. There’s no need to attach the CabrioFix seat with the belt however when using this base, as it’s the base which is attached to the seat belt.
When not wanting to use a base with your car seat however, there are 3 points (one on the back of the seat, two either side of the seat) in which the normal 3-point car seat slides through to fully secure the car seat into place.
A Footmuff tailored especially to fit onto the Maxi-Cosi CabrioFix is a great accessory to add during the winter. For those little ones that can’t quite tell you when they’re cold, we loved adding a Footmuff to keep their tiny toes cosy.
For when you’re travelling with your car seat out in the open, a Raincover (from 14.99) and Mosquito Net (from £7.99) are brilliant for every season, keeping bugs or rain at bay they both come in handy when out on a walk and getting caught out in certain weather. A Summer Cover is also great for keeping your child cooler during the hotter months, and also protects the seat from those messy hands.
We found that when our cover was in the wash after getting a bit grubby, a Replacement Cover (from £54) was a great and handy accessory. You could even choose a different colour if you want to jazz your CabrioFix up a little. We love the fact that Maxi-Cosi includes both buckle and harness pads so everything can be washed together.
